Advanced Practice Registered Nurses / Physician Assistants
Geisinger Health System is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a robust practice of trained urologists and advanced providers in Wilkes-Barre PA. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To assist the physician in the care and evaluation of patients to include:
Provides ongoing comprehensive outpatient services under the supervision of the physician.
Performs and records history and physical examination within the outpatient clinic and the medical center.
Independently summarizes appropriate data prior to surgery and/or coordinate preadmission and admission.
Executes and relays medical regimens as directed by the supervising physician and/or described in the work agreement between the physician assistant and the supervising physician.
Coordinates scheduling for patients as needed by supervising physician.
Conducts pre/postoperative patient education.
To participate in the postoperative care of patients being especially knowledgeable in the recognition of postoperative complications. Makes complete entries in the Electronic Medical Record, places orders and records progress notes in Epic ( the order will be reviewed and countersigned by the supervising physician or his designated alternate).
Informs the physician of all changes in the patient's condition.
Collects data and writes pertinent daily progress notes on charts.
Summarizes details of patient's hospitalization.
Independently makes routine rounds as directed by and/or with the physician or house staff.
Understands and informs patient of all potential postoperative complications following surgery.
As indicated by training, performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as directed by the supervising physician.
Acts as assistant in surgery under the supervision of the surgeon.
Assists the physician with correspondence.
Keeps the Section Head informed as to the additional needs, problem areas, and all other suggestions which may be beneficial to improve the services of the department.
Attends continuing medical education as needed or requested by supervising physician.
Rotates on-call as required.
Performs advanced use of EpicCare (ex. Template development).
Performs various duties as assigned by the physician.
Maintains CPR certification
Assists with prescreening patient visits for both Urology and Step-Up. Effectively triages patients to other services when appropriate.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Must obtain and maintain BLS,
Demonstrates computer literacy, accurate and timely charting via Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
Travel as indicated
Participation in the holiday/weekend/call schedule as indicated
The successful Physician Assistant candidate will work under the responsibility and supervision of the physician and require completion of an ARC-PA (or predecessor organization) approved physician assistant program, current NCCPA certification or eligibility and Pennsylvania State licensure.
The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Must be a graduate of a CAAHEP- approved physician assistant program, eligible or certified by the National Commission for the Certification of Physician Assistants and eligible or certified by the State Board of Medicine.
Satisfactorily completed formal training as surgical assistant or currently hold a position which commands comparable respect by virtue of equivalent work experience and training.
