As Supervisor/Charge Nurse for the GI Lab at Hoag Memorial Hospital, Newport Beach, you’ll play an integral part in helping the department maintain the high standards of nursing care set forth by the California Nurse Practice Act, while directly supporting the missions of both our Patient Care Services and Perioperative Services Divisions. Being a Hoag Supervisor/Charge Nurse means directing your proven leadership skills to serving our diverse staff and patient population, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices, and collaborating with members of this very specialized team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us.
Inside Hoag’s GI Department The Hoag GI Lab is a state-of-the-art center that offers a variety of technologically advanced equipment. It’s supported by a diverse team of approximately 20 highly trained staff members, including 12 RNs, many of who are members of the Society of Gastroenterology Nursing and Associates and have specialty certification. The GI Lab host 25 board-certified physicians from Advanced Endocopists, to GI Surgeons, Hospitalists and Gastroenterologists.
GI services include routine screening studies as well as specialty therapeutic procedures for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. The Hoag GI Lab, located on the second floor of the Sue and Bill Gross Women’s Pavilion at Hoag Hospital, has 5 state-of-the-art procedure rooms and performs over 7,000 procedures annually. The GI Lab also does a large volume of interventional cases that are referred by our Advanced Endoscopy team. Procedures most commonly performed included: EGD, Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, ERCP, EUS, Esophageal Manometry, Rectal Manometry, BRAVO Capsule, 24-hour pH Probe, Endo-Capsule, Bronchoscopy, EBUS and Super-dimension.
Duties as Charge Nurse may include: •Providing clinical supervision of patient care. •Supervising the job performance of all employees on an assigned shift. •Identifying the number and level of personnel needed to deliver patient care and adjusting staffing assignments appropriately. •Having knowledge of the use of specialized instrumentation, Quality Control requirements, and preventive maintenance. •Performing other duties as assigned.
