JOB DESCRIPTION: Serves in an advanced nursing role as defined by state guidelines, providing comprehensive assessment and care delivery, demonstrating a high level of autonomy and expert skills in the diagnosis and management of patients. Serves in a collaborative practice with the department physician staff in assessing needs, planning and providing education and care, evaluating outcomes, and coordinating follow-up and referrals for patients. Meets the qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range in both the Pulmonary Medicine Clinics.
COMPETENCIES & SKILLS: Demonstrates ability to identify problems and needs of patients; carry out defined responsibilities; relate to patients, families and outside agencies; establish rapport with physicians and co-workers; maintain records; and demonstrate growth in the position and an interest in self development and expansion of knowledge.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: The successful Nurse Practitioner candidate will work in collaboration with the physician and have a certificate of completion from an approved program for Nurse Practitioners or be eligible to hold national certification that allows the NP to work with the patient populations and location settings associated with this position. Must be eligible for licensure as a nurse practitioner in the state of PA.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is typically performed in a clinical environment/both inpatient and outpatient. Travel as indicated. Participation in call/weekend/holiday rotation as indicated

ABOUT GEISINGER WYOMING VALLEY MEDICAL CENTER: (GWV), located in Wilkes-Barre, PA, is an acute care hospital that is licensed for 274 beds and houses the only Level II trauma center in Luzerne County. The campus includes the Frank M. and Dorothea Henry Cancer Center, The Richard and Marion Pearsall Heart Hospital, the Janet Weis Children's Hospital Pediatric Unit, a transplant program and the Brain & Spine Tumor Institute.
