The KCVA Medical Center Medical Subspecialty Section provides consultative gastroenterology and hepatology service, which provides care and treatment of diseases of the stomach and intestines and their associated organs. The Gastroenterology service focuses on management of a very challenging patient population that includes: Inflammatory bowel disease Cirrhosis Liver cancer Acute/Chronic Liver failure Pre/post liver transplants and resections, autoimmune and genetic liver conditions Colo-rectal cancer Hepatitis C, HCV Therapy Diseases of the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, bile duct, and intestines. The APRN works collaboratively with the Medical Providers planning and implementing the plan of care for patients with acute and chronic GI disease, as well as liver transplant patients. Care is multidisciplinary, including collaboration with the dietitian, pharmacists, Social Workers, procedural gastroenterologists, Care Coordinator Registered Nurse, Special Procedures staff, Interventional radiology, transplant staff, oncologists, mental health providers, primary care providers, various providers in the community, and research programs.
