The Registered Nurse must be poised and articulate in communicating with people of varied educational levels and varied ethnic backgrounds. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia. Preferred Experience: 3 years of ICU experience (adult/geriatric population) Current ACLS/BLS Hands on experience with ICU type equipment to include ventilators, monitors and pumps. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience. Duties and responsibilities for Registered Nurse, Float Pool include, but are not limited to the following: Initial admission assessment is completed and documented Performs & documents ongoing thorough assessments with reassessments as needed Documents vital signs, l&O, flu ids and medication infusions in EMR Establishes and documents care plan relevant to admitting diagnosis and nursing assessments . Re-evaluates care plans as patient condition changes Notifies physicians in a timely manner of patient condition changes Assesses and identifies normal versus abnormal neurological findings based on patient history and diagnosis Assesses and documents signs of ETOH and drug withdrawal Assesses and documents increased signs of confusion, agitation, and unsafe behavior Distinguish normal versus adventitious breath sounds based on patient admitting diagnosis andhistory Performs ongoing pulmonary assessments; Notifying provider as necessary and intervening when appropriate Recognizes and responds to impaired air way Manages and provides care for patient on non-invasive support (Cpap/BiPap) for chronic pulmonary conditions Provides care for & management of patient with chest tubes Recognizes normal versus abnormal cardiovascular findings based on patient admitting diagnosis and history Performs 12-Lead ECG with correct lead placement. Identifies changes consistent with ischemia, injury and infarct Verbalizes and demonstrates the process for retrieval and placement of the telemetry unit. Recognizes normal from abnormal findings based on patient admitting diagnosis and history Cares for various GI/GU tubes (NG, enteral, jejunostomy and Foley catheter) Recognizes normal from abnormal findings based on patient admitting diagnosis and history Performs skin assessment with documentation in VANOD note Accurately identifies and stages pressure ulcers. Knows when to initiate a Wound Care Consult. Demonstrates adherence to Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infection (CLABSI) bundle. Demonstrates ability to locate Central Venous Policy 118-NS-14 Demonstrated adherence to Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) bundle. Demonstrate proper hand hygiene prior to and immediately following patient care/contact. Demonstrates ability to locate Hand Hygiene MCM 105-11 Verbalizes and performs blood pick-up process per SOP. Administers Blood and Blood products per policy Operate PCA pumps and documents use of continuous pain medication Manage and documents restraints Manage and document Clysis infusions on Hosp ice patients Manages patient with Suicidal Ideation/Homicidal Ideation Completes D-Stix documentation Heparin drip protocols Maintains SBAR document to ensure adequate hand-off and orders are completed in timely manner. Completes BCMA packet to ensure medication administration safety. Demonstrate and verbalizes the FULL functional capability of Pyxis machine. Work Schedule: Intermittent on an as needed basis.
